Elements and Principals of Design - Size

Size is the relationship between the areas of different shapes in a composition. To have a large shape in a composition you need to have a smaller shape to contrast against. The larger the size of a shape the more it is emphasized.

The idea of "Size" also goes hand in hand with the idea of "Proportion". Proportion helps a composition come together and form realism. Whether it be proportion on a person or proportion on a building, this idea helps make realism.
